Frequently asked questions about Bregus systems: water treatment, reverse osmosis and industrial solutions. Answers to queries about filters and servicing.
WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS
FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS
How much will my water treatment station cost?
Our company’s specialists select water treatment systems individually, based on water analysis, required capacity and other technical parameters.
Where should I begin?
You should start with a water analysis, determining the purpose of its use and the required capacity. This will help our specialists select the appropriate solution. You can also contact us by telephone to discuss our solutions in
detail and the data needed for calculations. Basic information can be found in our YouTube videos, website articles and social media.
I’ve got too much iron and manganese in my water – what next?
Following water analysis, depending on its parameters, there are several ways of removing iron from water. The main work is done by specialist filters designed to remove iron – iBregus and iBregus PRO iron removal systems. You can
read more about purification methods in our article.
I haven’t got drainage for backwash discharge – can I sort this somehow?
Drainage is essential both for professional water treatment systems and drinking water filters. There are cartridge filters which don’t discharge water to drainage, but their application is very limited. If you’ve got contaminated
water, we recommend installing a septic tank and using proper filters.
Will there be salt in the water after softening?
No, the salt solution goes to drainage.
How much salt does the system consume monthly/annually?
It depends on the model and consumption of purified water. We can calculate theoretical salt requirements based on average consumption. The actual amount can be determined after some time using the system.
Why does it cost so much?
Intelligent water treatment systems provide better comfort when using utility water. We’re based on over 25 years’ experience. The proposed solutions are selected with a margin, so that in case of increased consumption or deterioration
in water quality, they still ensure water of the same quality.
I haven’t got enough space for a filter – how can I resolve this?
One can always find compromises. If the water analysis is very unfavourable, it’s better to look for space for iBregus. If the analysis and consumption allow installation of a smaller iBregus PRO, that’s a better solution. There
are also cartridge filters, but they’re worth considering only as a last resort.
Is it possible to purchase on instalments?
Yes. Current instalment programmes can be checked with our managers in the sales department.
What if something breaks? How does servicing work?
You should contact the seller or directly with us. Filter operation statistics are used for diagnostics – therefore the filter shouldn’t be disconnected from the internet.
What will be the operating costs after installation?
Due to the individual approach to each case, it’s difficult to determine precise costs. We can provide theoretical data and remind about scheduled servicing.
How many years will the water treatment station operate?
Systems can operate for many years. This depends on incoming water quality and electrical supply stability.
Water quality has deteriorated after installation – what next?
The system settings need to be corrected. In iBregus solutions, this can be done remotely. Contact the seller or us. We recommend carrying out an analysis of the incoming water.
How often should servicing be carried out?
Cartridges for filter housings have a specified lifespan – from a month to a year, depending on contamination. Materials in tanks operate for an average of 7-10 years.
Won’t an osmosis unit alone be sufficient for me?
A drinking water filter has specified operating conditions – it can’t be installed on water from a well with large exceedances. The drinking water filter’s capacity is only sufficient for consumption needs.
Can I install filtration segments in stages?
You can, but you need to be aware that either the required effect won’t be achieved, or materials will wear out more quickly. Consult with our specialists.
Why has my neighbour got only one column, whilst I have to have several?
We’re responsible for the system’s operation and water quality. Our solutions are based on analysis of your water, required capacity and financial possibilities. Neighbours often have different water due to different well depths.
Won’t I get a bill for subscription?
No, if the paid “Bregus Assistant 24/7” service isn’t activated.
WATER ANALYSIS
What’s water analysis needed for?
Analysis is essential for selecting professional filtration equipment. Based on the results, required capacity and other technical matters, a specialist selects the appropriate equipment.
Can water composition be determined without analysis?
No. Visually, only some contaminants can be recognised, but not their quantity. Additionally, there are compounds invisible to the naked eye which may be harmful.
How much does water analysis cost?
Prices differ depending on the laboratory and scope of testing. It’s important that the analysis form has the laboratory’s stamp – this is a guarantee of reliability.
Where can water analysis be done?
Analysis is carried out by specialist state or private laboratories.
Which water parameters are most important when selecting a filter?
Hardness, iron, pH, manganese, oxidisability, nitrates.
How to properly collect water for analysis?
Detailed instructions should be contained in a separate point. If you use a well daily, pump water through for 5-10 minutes. In the case of a new well – from 4-6 to 12-24 hours, and sometimes even up to two days. Use a mineral water
bottle and rinse it with the same water from the well. Immerse the bottle completely underwater so air doesn’t get in – this is crucial for accurate iron analysis. Seal tightly and deliver to the laboratory as quickly as possible.
TYPES OF FILTERS AND CONTAMINANTS
IRON
I’ve got yellow water from the well – what filter is needed?
Water analysis should be carried out, contact our specialist and purchase appropriate equipment. Systems iBregus ED and iBregus PRO ED are designed for iron removal.
I’ve got clear water, but it tastes of iron – what to do?
Proceed as above – analysis, consultation, selection of appropriate system iBregus ED or iBregus PRO ED.
HARDNESS
What to do about hard water?
Softeners iBregus SB and iBregus PRO SB serve to remove hardness. Depending on the analysis, the system may contain additional equipment.
I’ve got hard water – I’ve already replaced three boilers.
Analysis, technical consultation, purchase and installation of appropriate system iBregus SB or iBregus PRO SB.
OTHER CONTAMINANTS
Water has a hydrogen sulphide smell – what to do?
Systems iBregus ED and iBregus PRO ED or iBregus CF and iBregus PRO CF are designed for hydrogen sulphide removal.
What is mechanical filtration?
Mechanical filters remove mechanical contaminants (silt, sand, rust) which can interfere with treatment systems.
What are carbon filters for water?
They serve to remove chemical contaminants affecting the taste, smell and colour of water.

Replacing cartridges in filter housings is straightforward. For the first material replacement, we recommend using our servicing.
Where to purchase salt for the filter?
From us, at builders’ merchants or directly from the tablet salt manufacturer.
How much salt does the system consume monthly?
It depends on the model and water consumption. iBregus systems save approximately 20% of salt, iBregus PRO – even fourfold.
iBregus TECHNOLOGY
How does the mobile application work?
The user panel shows system operation online, consumption statistics, regeneration information. A forced regeneration button is available.
Can the filter be controlled from a phone?
Yes, iBregus systems allow settings to be changed, regeneration to be started and additional equipment to be controlled.
What to do if the phone/internet breaks?
You can log in from another phone. Internet can be shared through a mobile hotspot.
DRINKING WATER FILTERS
What is reverse osmosis in 2026?
Previously: it was the most precise water treatment technology, removing up to 99% of contaminants – bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, medicine residues and excess
salt.
Today: it’s not only removing 99% of contaminants, but also enriching drinking water with valuable minerals, improving pH level and Redox potential.
Is water after osmosis healthy?
Previously: yes, because it was completely safe, purified of harmful substances and suitable for daily consumption.
Today: yes – it’s not only pure and safe, but also enriched with minerals, has a slightly alkaline pH and antioxidant properties.
What’s the ratio of pure water to waste water in Bregus?
1:5 – for 1 litre of pure water there are 5 litres to drainage.
Can osmosis be installed on water from a well?
No, if water from the well exceeds permissible contamination standards. First, an iBregus PRO water treatment system for domestic purposes should be applied, and only then should osmosis for drinking water be installed in the kitchen.
Does osmosis require special servicing?
Standard servicing is replacement of pre-filtration cartridges every 6-12 months, membrane every 2-10 years, post-filters annually. It depends on incoming water quality, pressure and amount of water consumed.
Does osmosis work without electricity?
Yes, osmosis works on mains pressure from 3 to 6 bars. Electricity is only needed when pressure is insufficient and the osmosis needs to be equipped with an electric pump.
What happens if filters aren’t replaced on time?
Pre-treatment cartridges get clogged, pressure on the membrane drops, the membrane gets damaged, drinking water quality deteriorates. Membrane replacement costs more, therefore it’s better to replace pre-treatment cartridges on time.
QUESTIONS ABOUT BREGUS OSMOSIS UNITS
Why are Bregus osmosis units more expensive than most other osmosis units?
Because Bregus osmosis units have many advantages: easily replaceable cartridges, durable membranes, enriching post-filters, component quality.
How does Bregus Alkaline Redox differ from ordinary osmosis?
Even the best classic osmosis merely removes contaminants. Bregus Alkaline Redox creates “living” water with ORP potential up to -650 mV and pH 8–9, which beneficially affects the body.
What is Redox water and how does it affect the body?
Water with negative ORP (up to -650 mV) supports intestinal microflora, stimulates immunity, acts antivirally and as an antioxidant, protects the liver and accelerates wound healing.
How does Redox water differ from ordinary purified water?
Redox water has negative redox potential (up to –650 mV) and acts like a natural antioxidant. It supports intestinal microflora, strengthens immunity and slows cellular ageing processes.
Why can’t Redox water be bought in a shop?
Negative ORP potential disappears after 2–4 hours, therefore Redox water should be drunk fresh — directly from the filter, to preserve its properties.
Bregus ProTech Redox vs Bregus Alkaline Redox — what’s the difference?
Both filters produce water with pH 8–9 and ORP up to -650 mV, that is with antioxidant properties.
Bregus ProTech Redox looks like a classic reverse osmosis system, but has thin, easily replaceable pre-filter housings.
Bregus Alkaline Redox is osmosis in an aesthetic, enclosed housing which protects the interior from external factors and has a leak protection system included.
Why don’t other companies produce Redox water?
Most companies compete only on price, selling standard systems from 20 years ago. We’ve got over 25 years’ experience and our own innovations — we invest in research and development, not in cheap solutions.
How do Bregus filters differ from other manufacturers?
We don’t sell outdated technologies. We’ve created our own Redox solutions, which the competition simply doesn’t have — to provide water that genuinely affects health.
How much water does a Bregus osmosis unit produce daily?
For home and flat: Bregus ProTech and Bregus Alkaline Redox – up to 286 l/day. For office and business: Bregus RES – up to 1000 l/day.
Who is Bregus RES intended for?
For restaurants, cafés, bars and laboratories. Capacity 200–400 litres daily. Guarantees stable water quality for espresso and food preparation.
INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT
General questions
What’s the difference between domestic and industrial water treatment?
Industrial water treatment is characterised by significantly higher requirements regarding capacity (from 1 to over 100 m³/h), specific water quality parameters depending on the industry (low conductivity, absence of silicates for
boiler houses, ultrapure water for pharmaceuticals), possibility of continuous 24/7 operation and integration with industrial automation systems.
Which industries need industrial water treatment?
Food industry, pharmaceuticals, boiler houses and heating, electronics, car washes and services, hotels and laundries, laboratories, beverage production, horticultural businesses.
What’s the capacity of industrial systems?
From 1 m³/h for small enterprises to over 100 m³/h for large production facilities.
Systems are designed taking into account peak consumption and 20–30% reserve.
Is separate water analysis needed for an industrial system?
Yes. Besides standard parameters, additional indicators are required: silicates, conductivity, TOC (total organic carbon), microbiological indicators and specific contaminants depending on the industry.
Operation and servicing
How often should an industrial system be serviced?
- Replacement of pre-treatment cartridges – monthly or according to pressure drop,
- Regeneration of ion exchange media – depending on load,
- Full technical inspection – once yearly.
Can an industrial system’s operation be automated?
Yes. iBregus PRO systems are equipped with controllers with possibility of SCADA integration, connection to dispatch systems, remote monitoring and management through cloud services.
Equipment selection
What’s better – reverse osmosis or ion exchange?
Reverse osmosis is effective with high salt content and large volumes and requires fewer reagents.
Ion exchange works well with low TDS (<500 mg/l) and need for ultra-high purity.
Often a combination of RO + ion exchange is used.
Selection is carried out based on water analysis and quality requirements.
Can the system be scaled with production growth?
Yes. iBregus PRO systems have modular construction, enabling addition of filters, tanks and pumps without necessity of replacing the entire equipment.
What’s needed to install an industrial system?
- Room with temperature +5…+35°C,
- Water supply under pressure 2–4 bars,
- Power supply 220/380 V,
- Drainage for backwash,
- Space 15–50 m² (depending on capacity and number of equipment units).
What’s the warranty on industrial equipment?
Standard warranty is 12–24 months. Extended service contracts are available.
