How much water should you drink daily

How much water should you drink daily? Water is an essential component of our body. An adult human body is made up of 70% water, blood contains 98%, muscles about 75%, and bones around 28%. Water influences all life processes in the human body. As we age, the amount of water in the body naturally decreases, affecting skin condition, organ function, energy levels, and more.

Water balance

Through digestion, sweating, breathing, and sleeping, an adult loses about 2 liters of water daily. This water deficit must be replenished with clean water. This process is called the body’s water balance — the equilibrium between water intake and water loss (a zero difference is considered normal).

It’s important to note that tea, coffee, and other beverages do not count as water balance sources. Studies since 1928 have shown that consuming caffeinated drinks causes the body to excrete more moisture than drinking water. So, if you love coffee or tea, you should increase your daily water intake.

What happens if you get dehydrated?

Disrupting your water balance leads to many negative effects: headaches, hair loss, skin losing elasticity, joint pain, cramps, reduced performance and concentration, and more. Without water, the body cannot regulate heat exchange or maintain a stable temperature. Losing 6–8% of body water causes semi-consciousness, 10% loss leads to hallucinations and swallowing difficulties, and 12% loss results in death.

Overhydration can also cause poisoning symptoms like excessive salivation, nausea, vomiting, lowered body temperature, increased urination, muscle weakness, cramps, and headaches.

How much water should you drink daily?

Drinking enough water helps vitamins, carbohydrates, and proteins dissolve better in your body, stimulating better organ function and toxin removal.

Regular hydration is key. Develop a habit of drinking water gradually:

  • Start every day with a glass of clean water on an empty stomach. Make this a morning ritual for you and your family. Washing your body and skin with alkaline water will make your skin more elastic and fresh. Drinking water wakes your body and improves mood.
  • Drink clean alkaline water 30 minutes before meals to prepare your digestive system.
  • Drink a glass of water before bedtime, as water evaporates during sleep and you cannot control water balance then.

To maintain your body’s water balance, calculate roughly the volume of water needed as 3% of your body weight in kilograms.

Benefits of active water

You can experience the benefits of water with the right pH and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) yourself. After less than a week of regular consumption, you may notice better temperature regulation, muscle building, faster metabolism, fat reduction, and weight loss.

Water from the Bregus Alkaline-Redox reverse osmosis system mimics the internal environment of the body, offering protective and regenerative properties. It has a more negative ORP (-200 to -500 mV) compared to the body’s environment (-100 to -200 mV). Regular drinking water has a higher ORP than the body, which causes it to take electrons from cells and tissues. Hydrogen-rich water benefits the body, helping dissolve kidney stones, boost immunity, improve metabolism, and increase overall endurance and energy.

Practical tips on how much water to drink daily

How much water you need varies, but here are some general guidelines:

  • Drink water itself, not just other beverages.
  • Don’t wait to feel thirsty; drink regularly. If you’re at your computer, keep water nearby.
  • Get into the habit of taking at least half a liter of filtered water with you when you go out.
