PELLETIZATION - THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY OF BIOMASS CULTIVATION

Before the plant origin biomass becomes the fuel, it has to pass a number of processes like for example pelletization process. As a result of it we achieve one of the most popular and universal kind of biomass – pellet. About pellet we will talk a little more but first I would like to say about other famous green power sources.

To achieve a biomass we can use agricultural production wastes or plants from a special energetic plantations. Anyway using such plants is not so legitimate. Areas, where are grain, soya or oilseed rape, we can use to produce eatable fruit and vegetables – which have a major value to the hunger around the globe. Even cutting the trees to produce biomass is very doubtfully thing. This we can observe on a large scale in Republic of Indonesia – the country where the main wood-supplier to EU countries. Union legislation predicts rise in the share of renewable energy sources in general usage of energy. Until 2020 it will amount to15%, ‘til 2030 – 20% of general power production, achieving also from biomass.

Using wood-wastes or grain threshing to produce biomass have no any doubts and have no difficulties. Grass, leaves, paper or wood-bits and pieces we can gather and use in every single household. More effective and cheaper way than using only biomass is its co-burning with carbon in traditional furnaces or in boilers. To decrease the volume addend material and use the large amount of it and increase power’s density, some kinds of biomass we can pelletizate. During this process lignin containing in plants (grass, leaves) is getting warm by the pressure and it’s getting soften and plastic. This let to form the plant material into short rollers about several dozen millimeters of diameter. As a result of this process the material wetness decreases and the fuel value increases. That’s why pellets burning gives more power. Anyway the material must be crumbled earlier, but there’s no need to be superfine. It could be a little wet, but there’s no way to has more that 20% of wetness. That’s mean that plant’s material we use to make biomass we can earlier wash to clean it from any greasiness which can cause pelletization machines corrosion. These devices, working as electric mill, have moveable, metal elements which can use faster when they rub dusty or muddy leaves or grass. If cleaning before pelletization is beneficial for achieved biomass, the ready pellets need to warehouse appropriate and protect against the wet because the wetness in the reason that biomass decays.

To meet the conditions of European Community, necessary seems to be the rise of using the renewable power sources. Even at households. Taking into account the investments in pelletization, which lets to produce biomass for own needs for sure helps to treat this way as one of the newest, european trend. In the future it helps to save money and environment.

Accordingly, much effort has been directed into obtaining energy from tidal and wave power, which are defined as circular movements of water molecules caused by wind that moves water surface through friction.
